Week After Spring Break
Oh my. I have survived a long and tiring week of school. I love my kids. Let's start with that. I want you all to know that I love my job. Yes. I love it all.
This past week has been a tough one. No one ever can prepare you for the week after spring break. Honestly, I feel like they should have a course in college called, "How To Survive School After Breaks." We need to be taught how to pull their attention back to school and not stuck in spring break. The entire week we battled to stay focused. I don't know how many times I told my kiddos to stop talking. I'm glad they like each other so much that they are so excited to see each other after a long week of separation. But really children, stop talking for a minute!
I think that Tuesday was the first day I felt like my students really liked me. It has been rough in our classroom with me as a new teacher and them with a new teacher. I received hugs as they came into the classroom. They were excited to be back. It is such an overwhelming feeling when the students you teach give your a simple welcome back hug.
I figured out that the first thing you have to do is let them talk for a few minutes about what they did over break. Then do a lesson, then do a brain break, then do another lesson, then let them talk. It was exhausting, but we got through it.
Another thing I feel like would be nice is a prep class for teachers. A nice little prep day to, also, get your mind off of Spring Break. I went on a very nice relaxing trip with Nate and I wanted to stay on the trip forever. No work? Heck yes! But. I am here for the children.
Speaking of children. Are they not a joy?! I have one student that randomly will come up and make me copy her dance moves. That happened I'm pretty sure like 5 times daily this week. I have another student who told me all about Pokemon and I saw all of his new cards that he bought over break.
I don't care what you say being a teacher is a blast. Even if I have to go through tough weeks after breaks. I love my kids and my career. I will be sad to let these monsters go at the end of the school years. Happy 30 days left of school!
Until Next Time,
-Allie
